As a devoted Auntie, longtime advocate of education, and community organizer Erica has dedicated her life to public service and fighting for her community. She was raised in Gresham by a mother who was a first generation black oregonian, and a father that’s a Mississippi transplant. Erica learned early on that life was full of culture and diversity, and the significance of family history and of knowing your roots. Her parents taught her from an early age the importance of watching over others, and it’s a lesson Erica has applied to every facet of her life since.

Erica graduated from the district’s very own Centennial High School in 2010. While attending Mount Hood Community College and Oregon State University she was a fierce advocate for increased higher education funding to ensure lower tuition and increased access to resources and services to address mental health, food security and houselessness. In 2016 Erica became the first Black femme from Oregon to serve as the National Programs Director for the College Democrats of America. In this position Erica fought tirelessly to establish inclusive policy and create safe spaces for marginalized and underrepresented communities.

After leaving OSU, Erica moved back to the Centennial School District and focused all of her efforts on organizing in the community she grew up in. From organizing the 2017 Woman’s March in Portland to serving on boards for numerous organizations including East Country Rising, NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon and the as the chair of the Women’s Caucus for the Democratic Party. Erica is a proven champion in this community and wants to continue the fight for the students in the district she attended and graduated from.
